The much-awaited Border-Gavaskar Trophy is all set to begin on February 9 at Nagpur and India’s hero from the last edition, Rishabh Pant is going to miss the series because of the injuries he suffered during a major car accident on December 30, 2022.

The cricketer is currently admitted at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai and has gone through multiple surgeries in the meantime. As reported earlier, the southpaw can miss up to 18 months of cricket and thus, might be out of the upcoming ODI World Cup and the T20 World Cup next year.

Meanwhile, Pant’s teammate from the Delhi Capitals franchise, Marcus Stoinis has shared a heartfelt message for the cricketer and prayed that he recovers soon and also mentioned that they will miss seeing Pant in the upcoming series.

“One player definitely missed this season badly and it is Rishabh Pant he is unfortunately not with the team. I wish he will recover soon and come back to the field,” said Stoinis as quoted by Hindustan Times.

This time we don't want to lose the trophy: Stoinis

Despite being a powerhouse in Test cricket, the Australian team have failed to clinch the Border-Gavaskar Trophy from India’s hands in the recent past. Now, even though Stonis is currently not a part of the Australia Test set-up, he stated that the team don’t want to lose the trophy this time around.

Though the 33-year-old acknowledged that beating India in their home conditions is difficult, he believes that the Australian team is strong enough to go over the line.

“This time we don't want to lose the trophy. The team never wants to lose it but this could be the third time and we don't want to give up this year. Our squad is too strong and facing India on their soil is a bit difficult as we have to face spin tracks over there."

"India have some specialist bowlers like R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja those can bowl really well but we are also coming with some specialist spinners so you can expect a good competition this time,” the all-rounder added.
