'I wish I was a batter' - Pat Cummins opens up on RCB vs SRH run-fest
"Feel like I wish I was a batter. Against Mumbai a few weeks ago I thought it won't happen again, but it has happened again," Cummins said.
The 30th game of the ongoing IPL (Indian Premier League) saw Royal Challengers Bengaluru take on Sunrisers Hyderabad at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Monday, April 15. The clash scripted history, as after an unbelievable batting performance by SRH, the visitors managed to post a total of 287 runs in the first innings.
The target saw SRH defeat RCB by 25 runs as well, and after the clash, Hyderabad’s captain Pat Cummins took center stage and reflected on how sometimes he wished he was a batter.
Cummins was also asked whether bowlers will go extinct in a few years due to such pitches and the performances by the batters, to which the star pacer replied that he still has a few years left in the tank.
"Feel like I wish I was a batter. Against Mumbai a few weeks ago I thought it wouldn't happen again, but it has happened again. Give me a few more years please (on if bowlers will go extinct)! It feels like you bowl an over for seven or eight feels great," Cummins said in the post-match presentation ceremony.
I've given up trying to read the pitches: Cummins
Furthermore, the star SRH skipper lauded the approach with which his batters approach every game, and despite the unpredictable nature of the pitch, the SRH players manage to adapt and even maintain a positive atmosphere in the camp.
"I've given up trying to read the pitches. Really happy with our cricket, four wins now, the freedom with which the batters are going out to play is great and few wily bowlers doing the job as well," Cummins said.
It is worth noting that, aiming to chase down the target, RCB came very close but fell short of 25 runs. The win for Hyderabad sees them sit in fourth place in the IPL 2024 standings. With four wins and two losses, SRH currently have eight points to their name.
On the other hand, RCB find themselves on the wrong end of the standings with just two points in seven matches, and their quest to make the playoffs seems to be looking unlikely with every game.
