ICC announce nominees for Men's Emerging Cricketer of the Year, Arshdeep Singh sole Indian on the list
Arshdeep Singh was India's leading wicket-taker finishing with 10 scalps in T20 World Cup 2022
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has revealed the nominees for the Men’s Emerging Cricketer of the Year award 2022. Two left-arm pacers and a couple of opening batters are the contenders for this prestigious award which is presented to honour the upcoming cricketing talents.
The candidates for the ICC Emerging Cricketer of the Year in the men’s category include the likes of India’s new pace sensation Arshdeep Singh, tall Proteas speedster Marco Jansen, Afghanistan batter Ibrahim Zadran, and New Zealand batting sensation Finn Allen.
How have the emerging talents fared this year?
Arshdeep Singh who is known for his death overs skills and the ability to bowl yorkers at will earned a place in India’s T20I setup following impressive performances for Punjab Kings in IPL 2022.
He has now developed the art of performing under immense pressure courtesy of his match-winning bowling figures of 3/32 against arch-rivals Pakistan at the iconic MCG where he dismissed Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan cheaply.
Arshdeep finished as India’s leading wicket-taker at the T20 World Cup 2022 with 10 wickets from six matches averaging 15.6 at an economy of 7.8. Marco Jansen has been one of South Africa’s excellent finds in the last 12 months and he has made good use of his height to extract bounce on South African and Australian wickets.
Jansen has taken 14 Test wickets in South Africa in a calendar year and will be finishing this year with 36 scalps in the longest format . Apart from that, the emerging cricketer has also contributed with the bat having scored 229 runs. Budding Afghan batter Ibrahim Zadran has proved to be one of the country’s promising batters in white-ball cricket having showcased consistent performances throughout the year.
Zadran’s best knock this year happens to be an unbeaten 64 runs off 59 deliveries against India in the Asia Cup. He will be finishing the year with 431 runs in One Day Internationals averaging 71.83 and a strike rate of 88.31. In T20Is, the youngster has scored 367 runs averaging 36.7 at an outstanding strike rate of 109.55.
Last, but not least, the next big thing in New Zealand cricket Fin Allen also features on this elite list having excelled at making his bat do the talking throughout 2022 especially having played an important role in the Kiwis making the semis of this year’s T20 World Cup.
Allen scored 411 T20I runs to his name averaging 21.63 at a strike rate of 155.09. He was also good in ODIs scoring 387 runs at an average of 38.7 at a strike rate of 94.39.
