The United States of America (USA) and the West Indies will host the eagerly awaited ICC T20 World Cup 2024 from June 1 to June 29. The 20 teams are split up into four groups of five teams each, with the first and second-placed teams in each group advancing to the Super Eight round. India have been placed in Group A with the USA, Ireland, Canada, and arch-rivals Pakistan.

The deadline for submitting all squads is May 1, as the competition kicks off on June 1. Notably, this date is merely provisional and by May 25, modifications may be made without the International Cricket Council's (ICC) sanction. Teams will then require approval from the ICC's technical committee.

As a result, the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) Selection Committee will have the entire Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season to review performances and make a decision on the selection for the ICC event. The IPL 2024 will also serve as a test for senior India batters Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Moreover, apart from three traveling reserves, the BCCI Selection Committee will name a roster of fifteen players. Although it is anticipated that Rohit will captain the team, there are speculations that he will be replaced by star all-rounder Hardik Pandya. In addition, team India will kick start their campaign with a game against Ireland at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, New York on June 05. The Men in Blue will next take on arch-rivals Pakistan on June 09.

“We have a fair idea about the squad. But of course, IPL will be the one. We have to pick the squad based on form and not on individual performances in the past. Everyone is available for selection until then. It is up to the selectors whether Rohit and Virat will be in the squad. They are available for selection in T20Is,” a senior BCCI official was quoted as saying by InsideSport.
