ICC Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2025: Lucy Hamilton named Australia captain, Hasrat Gill to be her deputy
The second edition of the Under-19 Women's T20 World Cup is set to commence on January 18 in Malaysia.
Australia recently named their squad for the upcoming Under-19 Women's T20 World Cup 2025, which is set to be held in Malaysia from January 18 to February 2. Seam-bowling all-rounder Lucy Hamilton has been appointed as the captain of the side, while leg-spinner Hasrat Gill will serve as the vice-captain.
Lucy is set to play her second consecutive U-19 World Cup after being part of the Australian squad in the inaugural edition of the tournament in 2023 hosted by South Africa. India emerged victorious in the Rainbow Nation after beating England in the final.
“It is a huge honour to be named captain of Australia for the Under 19 World Cup, I’m incredibly thankful for the opportunity to lead our team," Lucy, who represented Brisbane Heat in the Women's Big Bash League (WBBL) 2024 was quoted as saying by News18.
“We are fortunate to have strong leaders in our group, and I know I have fantastic support around me. I’m thrilled to be playing for Australia again, the World Cup is the ultimate under-age carnival and as a squad, we are excited to embrace the opportunity that’s in front of us," she added.
Meanwhile, Amritsar-born Hasrat is one of the brightest young prospects in Australian cricket at the moment. She has represented Australia at the age-group level. On October 13, 2024, Hasrat debuted in the shortest format for Melbourne Stars in the T20 Spring Challenge against Sydney Thunder and bagged a three-for.

Australia's Under-19 head coach Kristen Beams praised Lucy as she voiced her confidence about Australia's chances at the 16-team tournament. Beams opined that there will be chances for all the players in the team to develop leadership skills during the competition.
“Lucy is a wonderful talent and a strong character who has thoroughly earned the opportunity to lead her country at the World Cup. She has already displayed her ability on the world stage and we’re excited for what she can bring to the group both on and off the field at this year’s tournament. Lucy will captain our squad and has unanimous support from our group, but there will certainly be opportunities for all players to develop leadership qualities over the course of the tournament," Beams said.
