The apex cricket governing body, the International Cricket Council (ICC) recently unearthed the nominations for the Women's Cricketer of the Year in the T20I format. Notably, the list will feature top performers in the current year. Talking about the stiff race for the coveted award, Sri Lanka Captain Chamari Athapaththu leads the batting chart. The Lankan batter scored a Stupendous 720 runs with a decent average of 40 after 21 appearances.

During these games, she made a scintillating unbeaten century (119*) as well. She finished with two centuries and four fifties, respectively. Besides she also made notable contributions with the ball as well. Athapaththu picked up 21 wickets for Sri Lanka Women.

Apart from her, Mellie Ker made the cut into the coveted list of players. The New Zealander made a great impact in the Women's T20 World Cup 2024 edition. She bagged most wickets in the T20I format along with lifting the maiden World Cup title. As a result, the Rainbow Nation ended up breaking into their maiden T20 World Cup final appearance.

Prendergast rose to the occassion

The last nomination came in the form of Ireland Women pacer, Orla Prendergast. The Irish bowler made an impressive bowling performance against England Women, back in September when she played in the second T20I game. She claimed two wickets by conceding 31 runs in her four-over quota. Following that, Prendergast arrived at number 3 slot and produced a career-best score of 80 to anchor the run chase. In the end, Ireland successfully chased down the 170-run target in the last over.
