With the ongoing Women’s T20 World Cup, Bangladesh are not having the best of starts; the side has lost both of its opening matches at the World Cup and is looking at a potential early elimination from the tournament. However, the team’s form is surprisingly not the biggest concern at the moment.
The 30-year-old, Lata Mondal was allegedly offered money for spot-fixing. According to several reports, Mondal was approached by Shohely Akhter to spot-fix that match, an offer Mondel immediately refused. The conversation between the two was aired on the Bangladeshi channel Jamuna TV.
The 30-year-old was offered to spot-fix whenever she liked and was offered money to get stumped or hit wicket. Lata immediately reported the incident to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), who reported the same to the ICC’s Anti-Corruption Unit. The matter will be dealt with by the ICC, and only time will tell whether appropriate action is taken against it or not.
Bangladesh continue their poor run of form
Bangladesh started their World Cup campaign by facing Sri Lanka in the first match, giving them a target of 127 to chase. Sri Lanka was able to do the same rather easily, winning the match by 7 wickets. In the second match, Bangladesh went up against Australia, where they suffered yet another crushing defeat.
Meg Lanning was influential in the run chase with her unbeaten knock of 48 off 49 balls. Alyssa Healy also impressed with the bat as she scored 37 off 36 balls. The only positive for Bangladesh to take from the game was the knock of Nigar Sultana, who scored 57 off 50 balls.
After two back-to-back defeats in the first two matches of the World Cup, Bangladesh will now be going up against New Zealand, who have also struggled at the tournament. Both sides have lost their first two matches and will be looking to register their first win as they face each other on Friday, February 17.
