ICC’s anti-corruption unit chair Sir Ronnie Flanagan to retire in October

Sir Robbie Flanagan of the ICC’s anti-corruption unit (ACU), who has been the independent chairman of the unit since 2010, is all set to retire. He will be retiring by the end of October 2024, according to ESPNcricinfo. It is worth noting that the decision of Flanagan comes after ACU head Alex Marshall decided to retire in November.

It is worth noting that Flanagan was the Home Office chief inspector of constabulary for England, Wales, and Northern Ireland, and being a highly respected senior cop, he had been replaced as the new anti-corruption unit chair in 2010.

Interestingly, Paul Condon was the one who set up the ACU after his appointment to the ICC in 2000. In the early stages, Condon was tasked with handling the ever-increasing cases of match fixing, and under the ideals of Condon, as a result of the increasing laws against match fixing, Mohammad Azharuddin, Saleem Malik, and the late Hansie Cronje faced life bans for fixing.

Furthermore, with the increasing popularity of T20 cricket, Condon had pointed out the shortest format’s domestic leagues will prove to be the biggest threat to maintaining the integrity of the game.

ICC release anthem for Women’s T20 World Cup

The Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 is looming on the horizon. The marquee event is set to kick off on October 3 and will be held in the UAE. It is worth noting that the competition was originally slated to be held in Bangladesh, but due to the ongoing political tensions in the country, the tournament was moved out.

Recently, the ICC took centre stage and revealed the anthem for the T20 World Cup 2024, titled 'Whatever It Takes.' The anthem is said to be a collaboration between all-girl pop group W.I.S.H., music director Mikey McCleary, composer Parth Parekh, and Bay Music House.

The official music video of the anthem was also shared across various social media platforms, and as the sides prepare to take on each other, the women’s T20 World Cup once again promises to be a thrilling affair.
