Courtesy of David Warner’s terrific performance with the bat, Australia managed to win the 2021 T20 World Cup but just a year later, the southpaw is struggling to be amongst runs in the ongoing T20 World Cup.Cameron Green, who replaced Josh Inglis in the squad was sensational against India is waiting in the wings. However, former India international Wasim Jaffer believes that the 35-year-old should be backed as he can prove to be really dangerous if Australia indeed manages to qualify for the semi-final of the competition.

So far in three innings, the opener managed to score only 19 runs and that’s a massive concern, to say the least. Playing in the known conditions of Australia, Warner was expected to give his team a flying start but that surely hasn’t been the case. His captain and opening partner Aaron Finch, on the other hand, is in good form and with Australia managing to win two of their four games, pressure hasn’t really forced Australia to make any changes.

Thus, Jaffer wants the team management to back the cricketer as he can be a runaway match-winner on his day. “Yes, it is (his form) a matter of concern. It’s good that the other cricketers are performing and Australia are winning. Other than the match against New Zealand, Australia have won their matches. So, when you are winning, it doesn’t matter much if a particular player isn’t scoring. So, I believe that the Australian team can afford to stick with him because he is a quality player,” said Jafer on BatBricks7 presents Run Ki Runneeti show on CricTracker.

“Once he starts scoring and if Australia manages to qualify, David Warner can be a dangerous player. In these situations, if David Warner starts scoring he can be your match-winner. I think he should stick until the powerplay finishes and if he does so, I’m sure he will make it count,” he added.

Australia defeats Ireland by 42 runs to move up to second in the table

The Kangaroos needed a win in order to stay alive in the competition and they did it in style. Batting first, Aaron Finch and company posted 179 on board after 20 overs which eventually the Irish cricketers failed to topple. Aaron Finch continued with his blistering form as the captain scored 63 off 44 balls to help Australia get the much-needed start. Mitch Marsh and Marcus Stoinis chipped in later on to help Australia reach a defendable total.

With the ball, the pacers were ruthless early on in the match but Lorcan Tucker kept Ireland in the match. However, his 71 off 48 went in vain as their middle order collapsed like a house of cards. With that, Australia manage to ease past England and move up to second in the points table.
