'If England get over 250 it will be a very hard chase for Australia' - Michael Vaughan shares his opinion on potential outcome of Edgbaston Test

Based on how the opening Test of the ongoing Ashes series has transpired thus far it can be argued that England’s 'Bazball' approach has not disappointed its fans. England skipper Ben Stokes showed a lot of courage, declaring their innings with 393 runs on the board on Day 1 while with the ball, he showed tactical brilliance in sending a well-set Usman Khawaja back to the pavilion.

The home team eventually got a seven-run lead in the first innings and as per former cricketer Michael Vaughan, if England manage to set a target of 250 runs or above, they will be in a pole position to get the job done in the first match of the series.

Vaughan also added that it will be interesting to see how the Three Lions tackle Australia spin wizard Nathan Lyon on Day 4. He believes the battle against Lyon will be key for the home team and can eventually decide the fate of the match.

“I'd rather be in England's position. This Bazball approach against a world-class performer in Nathan Lyon. There has also been a little bit more for the seamers. The key is how England play Lyon. If they get over 250 it will be a very hard chase for Australia,” Vaughan was quoted as saying by India Today.

Broad, Anderson and Robinson have brought England back into the contest: Vaughan

After Broad’s double whammy on Day 2 to dismiss David Warner and Marnus Labuschagne, Australia were under tremendous pressure. Especially, when Steve Smith too walked back to the pavilion.

However, Usman Khawaja, Travis Head and Alex Carey fought back in order to bring Australia back into the contest. However, on Day 3 English pacers showed a lot of promise and eventually got better off the visiting team as they dismissed them for 386 runs. Vaughan appreciated the pacers as he believes that Broad, Anderson and Robinson did a special job at Edgbaston.

“Broad, Anderson and Robinson have brought England back into the contest. There was a stage earlier this morning where Australia were well on their way to a 50-60 run lead,” Vaughan added.
