If Rohit finds form before the Champions Trophy, then we’ll see a different kind of captain: Suresh Raina
"If he finds form before the Champions Trophy, then we’ll see a different kind of captain and a different kind of approach from him,” Raina said.
The Indian team has managed to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series against England but the form of Virat Kohli and skipper Rohit Sharma is still a big question mark with the opening batter failing to make an impact with the bat in Nagpur and Kohli facing some fitness issues ahead of the series as he misses the first ODI as well.
The last few innings from Rohit Sharma have been underwhelming and his lean patch has continued in the VCA as well as he gets dismissed for just two runs by Saqib Mahmood. This has led to a lot of experts bringing up that the India skipper needs to find some form ahead of the Champions Trophy. One of the experts who has shared their opinion on why Rohit’s form might be important is former 2011 World Cup winner Suresh Raina who has said that once he starts getting runs the fans will witness a much more different approach from the T20 World Cup 2024 winning captain.

“I think this wicket would have been a good one for Rohit Sharma’s comeback had he applied himself a bit more. Now, the team will move to Cuttack, where he could also perform well. If he finds form before the Champions Trophy, then we’ll see a different kind of captain and a different kind of approach from him,” Raina said on the Sports18 network.
Raina on the importance of Kohli’s fitness
There was a lot of hype around Virat Kohli who had to miss the first ODI due to a knee injury. This was one of the rare occasions where the former India skipper missed a game in international cricket. This is another factor Raina spoke about on why it is important that Kohli stays fit and the top three to play in the last two ODIs of the series.
“That’s why the question of whether Virat Kohli will be fit in time is crucial, because having the top three play together in these two matches before the big tournament is very important," said Raina.
