The IPL 2025 auction is looming on the horizon, and ahead of the marquee event, many eyes will be upon Mumbai Indians. One of the biggest decisions that the side will have to make would be whether to hold onto former skipper Rohit Sharma.

In the IPL 2024, the captaincy was handed over to Hardik Pandya after he was roped in from Gujarat Titans. Ahead of the auction, there have been rumours that Mumbai Indians are not looking to retain Rohit, and former India cricketer Harbhajan Singh had a lot to say about the matter. Harbhajan Singh came forward and opined that a bidding battle could be underway for Rohit in the mega auction.

"It will be interesting to see whether he will be retained or not. If he goes into the auction pool, it will be fascinating to see which team bids for him. I’m sure many teams must be thinking along those lines," Harbhajan Singh told the Times of India.

"Rohit Sharma, as a leader and a player, is amazing. He’s a top-quality player, top-quality captain, and leader. He is a proven match-winner. Even at 37, he still has a lot of cricket left in him. If Rohit enters the auction, he will fetch big bucks. It will be exciting to see the auction unfold," he added.

It is worth noting that Rohit Sharma’s future with Mumbai Indians has been uncertain ever since he was removed as the side’s skipper in 2024. Many experts have been discussing whether Rohit will stay on the side or opt to leave.

Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra TOO shared his opinion on the matter. Raising the same question of whether Rohit will stay or go, Chopra discussed Rohit’s future, comparing him to legendary MS Dhoni.

"Will he stay or will he go? It's a big question. Personally, I feel he will not stay. Whoever is retained will be thinking that he will remain with you for three years, unless your name is MS Dhoni. MS Dhoni and Chennai Super Kings' story is very different but Rohit Sharma at MI, I feel he might himself leave or MI might leave him," Chopra said in a video on his YouTube channel.
