The Ranji Trophy 2024-25 saw the return of some big international stars who made themselves available for the domestic tournament. The Mumbai side witnessed two international stars Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal making a comeback in the tournament against Jammu & Kashmir but could not make use of the opportunity. Both the openers got out on single-digit scores in the first innings and despite getting a start in the second innings failed to cross the 30-run mark.

Despite these failures, there was still one international star in Shardul Thakur who has delivered with bat and ball in both innings. Thakur scalped two wickets in the first innings along with scoring 51 runs. But his remarkable performance has come in the second innings where he has scored 113* off 119 balls at Stumps on Day 2.

After these contributions, the 33-year-old all-rounder questioned the selectors on his non-selection.

“What can I talk about my quality? Others should talk about it. They should see that if someone has quality, he should be given more chances. I like batting in difficult situations. In easy situations, everyone does well, but how you put up the show in adverse situations matters. I see tough situations as a challenge and always think about how to overcome that challenge,” said Shardul as quoted by Livemint.

“You have to forget whatever has happened in the past; it is not going to change. It is important to be in the present and think about what you can do shortly,” Shardul added.

Speaking of the match, the Mumbai innings stands at 274/7 with Shardul Thakur once again forming another important eighth-wicket partnership with Tanush Kotian. Kotian is on 58* from 119 deliveries. The Mumbai team is leading by 188 runs while the partnership between the two players stands at 173.
