‘If they have an injury, it doesn't seem to affect them’ - Gary Stead gives his take on India ahead of Test series

"If they have an injury, it doesn't seem to affect them like other teams. There's someone else who can come in who is equally adept," Stead said.

With the multi-format series between India and Bangladesh concluded, the Indian team will now shift its focus onto the three-game Test series against New Zealand. The first Test of the series will begin on October 16 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

Ahead of the series, New Zealand head coach Gary Stead came forward and heaped praise on team India for having proper replacements of almost every player in case of an injury.

He also highlighted how much the series against India means to the BlackCaps, given the brand of cricket that team India plays at home.

"If they have an injury, it doesn't seem to affect them like other teams. There's someone else who can come in who is equally adept. They have the mass of numbers they can call but they are also very skillful and are an experienced team with a lot of Test caps. They play a brand of cricket that makes it very difficult for you over here but that's the challenge that's ahead of us,” Stead was quoted as saying by Sportskeeda.

He recognized he hasn't been at his best: Stead on Tim Southee

Furthermore, Gary Stead talked about the recent performance of star pacer Tim Southee. Recently, Southee came forward and talked about his struggles in the longest format, and Stead revealed that the team has been watching clips of Southee to help him improve.

"From my conversations with Tim, he recognized he hasn't been at his best but there's certainly no desire to not get back there. He's working hard in the background, he's doing everything he can and trying to rediscover what that little thing he feels is missing. We've looked back at quite a bit of video from previous years and times he's played in India and had success. It's just trying to rediscover that and find a little bit, I guess you could call it snap back into his action,” Stead said.
