Ihsanullah Janat slapped with five-year ban by Afghanistan Cricket Board for breaching anti-corruption codes

Ihsanullah Janat has been banned from all forms of cricket for five years after breaches of the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) and the ICC Anti-Corruption Codes during the second edition of the Kabul Premier League (KPL). ACB released an official statement regarding the fiasco on Wednesday, August 7.

Janat was found guilty of violating Article 2.1.1 of the ICC Anti-Corruption Code, which involves improper influence or efforts to fix the result, progress, conduct, or any other aspect of a match. As a result of this violation, he has been handed a five-year ban from all cricketing activities. The 26-year-old has admitted to the charges and confessed to his involvement in corrupt activities.

"In light of this violation, he has been handed a five-year ban from all cricket-related activities. Janat has admitted to the charges and confessed to his involvement in corrupt activities," ACB said in their statement.

The ACB Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) has revealed that three other players are also under suspicion for involvement in match-fixing, and investigations are being carried out. Decisions regarding their involvement will be made upon confirmation of their guilt. Furthermore, in their statement, ACB mentioned that the ban imposed on Janat comes into immediate effect and will remain in place for the next five years.

Janat made his First Class debut for Afghanistan in 2016

Ihsanullah Janat made his first-class debut for Afghanistan against Netherlands in the 2015–17 ICC Intercontinental Cup on July 29, 2016. He has the experience of playing three Tests, 16 ODIs, and a solitary T20I. The right-handed batter has scored 110 runs in Tests, 307 in ODIs, and 20 in T20Is.

His first international appearance came in the ODI format against Zimbabwe in February 2017. Meanwhile, his Test debut came in March 2019 versus Ireland. Janar's only T20I appearance was against Zimbabwe in June 2022. This was also the last time he appeared on the international scene. Janat's first-class numbers are exceptional as he has amassed 1,568 runs in 19 matches at a staggering average of 56. The five-year ban comes at a crucial stage of the Khost-born's cricketing career.
