Pakistan and England will tussle in a mouthwatering clash at the MCG for the biggest prize of the year in the grand finale of the ongoing T20 World Cup in Australia. Both sides are evenly poised in the lead-up to the final, but former English batting stalwart Kevin Pietersen made a bold remark, predicting an easy win for the Three Lions in the epic clash.
The encounter between England and Pakistan will be their eighth in the limited overs format in the last couple of months as the Men in Red triumphed in a seven-match T20I series in October. Given their recent history, the match is set to be a humdinger of a contest with both sides aware of their opponent's tactics.
However, former England star Kevin Pietersen believes that Pakistan can only win on Sunday if England pushes the self-destruct button. Pietersen feels that Jos Buttler's side are a cut above their opponents and will be too hot to handle for the Men in Green.
"Pakistan needs to hope that England self-destructs by being reckless and overconfident. I think it's an incredible strength that they can just go out there and play the way that they do, but we do know there's one thing that can happen to this England team – they can get rolled over for none because it's a sixathon. That's the only thing that I can see derailing England, and that's what Pakistan need to hope for, because I don't think they can derail England themselves. I’m predicting a comfortable win for England," Pietersen Pietersen wrote in his column for Betway.
'They didn't let India into the game at all- Pietersen was in awe of England's semi-final triumph
Talking about England's astonishing batting performance in the semi-final against India, the batting great lavished praise on the England side for outclassing a star-studded Indian side. He felt that the convincing win was one of the best performances by any side in this year's edition of the World Cup.
"That England performance ranks right up there. It was convincing as anything because that Indian team is star-studded. To beat them as convincingly as they did was spectacular. They didn't let India into the game at all. There was no doubt in my mind when India posted that score," he added.
