Shreyas Iyer was a regular in India’s Test squad before he was dropped from the last three Tests against England earlier this year. Ever since then, he has played some impressive knock in domestic cricket but the team management has not considered him for selection as he is currently not even in the scheme of things as far as red-ball cricket is concerned. Iyer hasn’t even been named in India A squad that will play a practice game in Australia in November.
Despite that, the Mumbai-born cricketer is keeping himself ready in case an opportunity arrives. Iyer made 142 in the first innings against Maharashtra in the Ranji Trophy, which helped Mumbai win by nine wickets. He also made a half-century in the Irani Cup and a couple more in the Duleep Trophy and is currently focusing on doing well in the Ranji Trophy to get noticed by the selectors.
Speaking on the same, Iyer remarked that playing in Australia will be a tough challenge as there is tremendous intensity and high demand. He understands the challenges of playing in Down Under but is ready to take the challenge and is preparing himself for the same.
“Playing in Australia, especially in a Border-Gavaskar series, is one of the biggest challenges in cricket. The conditions, the rivalry, and the intensity demand everything from you, and these are the moments you want to be part of as a cricketer. I’m preparing myself to grab that opportunity and leave a mark,” Iyer was quoted as saying by News18.
Rohit Sharma’s calmness under pressure stands out: Shreyas Iyer
Shreyas has done a commendable job in ODI cricket under Rohit Sharma. He was a force to reckon with in the ODI World Cup 2023, finishing with 530 runs in 11 games and finishing as the seventh-leading run-scorer of the tournament. Meanwhile, speaking about the Indian captain, Iyer lauded his calmness under pressure and added that he admires how reads and functions during tense situations.
“As a captain, his calmness under pressure stands out, and he gives players the freedom to express themselves. I admire how grounded he stays through highs and lows and how well he reads the game. I’ve learned a lot from him, especially how he keeps things light while handling pressure,” Iyer said.
