Team India recently suffered a historic Test series loss against Tom Latham-led New Zealand. Facing the Black Caps in Bengaluru, Pune, and Mumbai, the Indian team lost all three matches, resulting in a whitewash. However, with little to no time after the series loss, India are already gearing up for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.

The side will take on Australia in the highly anticipated series from November 22 and the first Test will be held in Perth. It is worth noting that the whitewash was India’s first Test series loss at home in more than a decade, which came against England. Since then, India have won 18 consecutive Test series at home.

Ahead of the series, former New Zealand cricketer Simon Doull took centre stage and opined that Australia will not let India forget about the whitewash.

"Yes, India has certainly won the last two series that India has played in Australia, so that's a good part. But then when you go on the back of a three-nil whitewash to Australia, I'm sure the whole of Australia will be waiting and reminding them about this every single minute, every single moment that they step into Australia," Doull told JioCinema.

"Four wins, one draw is what they needed. And a lot of tough questions to be answered for Rohit Sharma and his men. It will require a lot of strength of character to bounce back from this. I mean it's the same set of players who are travelling to Australia and it's never easy going to Australia,” he added.

What's happened now is they've let opposition spinners in: Doull

Furthermore, Doull talked about what went wrong for India in the three-game series against New Zealand. He opined that India’s success at home was built around using spin attacks and preparing batter-friendly pitches. However, he admitted that if the opposition spinners can match India, the side can get in trouble.

"What's happened now is they've let opposition spinners in, and with all due respect, Tom Hartley and Mitchell Santner are guys that you would not say would come here and be high-quality Test match bowlers. The reason India have had success at home predominantly is that in conditions that are decent for batting, they've had the two best spinners in the world,” Doull said.
