Mumbai Indians Women recorded their third successive win by beating Delhi Capitals by eight wickets in their latest Women's Premier League 2023 outing. They remain at the top of the league table after three games and are tipped to lift the trophy in an inaugural season.
Mumbai Indians have a rich history and their trophy cabinet is packed with seven titles so far. They have won Indian Premier League (IPL) on a record five occasions (2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020) as well as two Champions League T20 titles (2011 and 2013).
No other Indian team has enjoyed the success Mumbai Indians have and women's team head coach Charlotte Edwards wants to continue that legacy by lifting the WPL 2023 title. The legendary English cricketer also said that the women's team hopes to carry the winning mentality and success.
“It is very important for us as a group that we carry on the legacy that Mumbai Indians have created over the years and it is absolutely an honour to be part of this team. We hope to continue that winning mentality and success,” Charlotte Edwards said on the official Mumbai Indians' Instagram page.
The star all-rounder Pooja Vastarakar also shared her journey with Mumbai Indians and said that she always wanted to be part of the franchise. MI beat Delhi Capitals in an intense bidding war to sign Vastrakar for INR 1.90 crore in WPL 2023 auction.
“At the auction, I wasn’t worried about the price. I just wanted to be a part of Mumbai Indians and now that it has happened, I’m extremely happy,” Vastrakar said.
This franchise has done so much for men’s cricket: Jhulan Goswami
Mumbai Indians' batting coach Devieka Palshikaar praised the franchise's scouting network for recruiting the best young talent and successfully mixing them with experienced stars.
“If you see, Mumbai Indians have the most representation from different countries. Even if you look at the domestic players, a lot of them have been absorbed into the team at a very young age. The freedom that the young players get here is really good,” Palshikaar said.
Jhulan Goswami, the team's mentor and bowling coach, credited the franchise for their contribution to men's cricket and said that their winnings mentality remains crucial for professional athletes.
“This franchise has done so much for men’s cricket. The legacy they have and the winning mentality, these are very important things for a professional athlete,” said Goswami. Mumbai Indians next face UP Warriorz in their fourth game this season at Mumbai's Brabourne Stadium on March 12.
