Veteran Australia batter David Warner was seen batting right-handed in India’s second ODI against Australia in Indore. Chasing a mammoth total of 399, the visiting team needed a brilliant start but in the second over itself, they lost two important wickets of Matthew Short and Steven Smith and were clearly on the back foot.

Warner, however, was much relaxed and switched his hands to play in the middle. Notably, this was not the first time, when Warner turned into a right-hander, having done that on a few occasions in the past. He eventually managed to get going and also completed his half-century against India but was dismissed by Ashwin soon afterwards as the off-spinner dismissed him lbw. However, replays showed that Warner had edged the ball, but he decided not to review the decision and fell for 53 off 39.

Soon after that, the veteran India spinner also picked up the wicket of Josh Inglis and with that, Australia lost their fifth wicket in the middle. Ashwin, on the other hand, looked brilliant and will be hoping to get the job done in order to buy his ticket for the upcoming ODI World Cup, which is slated to begin on October 5 in Ahmedabad.

Suryakumar Yadav shines with bat, Ravichandran Ashwin with ball to outclass Australia

Meanwhile, in the first innings, Indian batters absolutely dominated the Aussie quicks in the absence of Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc. Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer decimated the visiting team, hitting a century each, while Suryakumar Yadav hit 72* runs off 37 deliveries to help India post 399 runs on the board. Australian bowlers looked clueless in the middle as the surface in Indore heavily favoured the batters.

Other than Ashwin, pressure was on Suryakumar as well. He was massively criticised for bagging a place in the World Cup despite not being able to deliver in ODI cricket. However, the team management, especially skipper Rohit Sharma showed a lot of faith in him and his abilities, which eventually helped India in the second match of the series. As a result, India have gained an unassailable lead (2-0) against Australia.
