India earn hard-fought win in series opener

Stand-in skipper Hardik Pandya won the toss and elected to field first at the Wankhede Stadium. India got the first breakthrough fairly early as opener Travis Head was sent packing by Mohammed Siraj. Immediately after Head's dismissal, Mitchell Marsh started showcasing his powerhitting abilities took the stage by storm. His blazing kncok of 81 off 65 balls helped Australia overcome the intial setback.

Marsh stitched a 72-run stand with stand-in skipper Steven Smith. Marsh kept going with extreme impetus. He scored runs at a strike rate of 124.61 and hit ten fours and five sixes. Australia lost wickets at regular intervals and eventually got bundled out for 188. India were also in a spot of bother early after losing their four top-order batters for just 39 but some sensible batting by the trio of Hardik, KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja helped them to get over the line.
