IND vs AUS: Gautam Gambhir rings bell to kickstart second Test at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi
Australia won the toss and elected to bat first in the second Test.
Former India international Gautam Gambhir kickstarted the proceedings by ringing the bell at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi ahead of India’s second Test against Australia.
The Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) president Rohan Jaitley was also part of the tradition and was spotted alongside Gambhir during the ceremony as the 2011 World Cup winner rung the bell five times to mark the beginning of the day’s play.
Suryakumar Yadav makes way for Shreyas Iyer in second Test
After making his Test debut in Nagpur, Suryakumar Yadav was dropped from the second one, as Shreyas Iyer got back into the playing XI. The 28-year-old was India’s leading run-scorer across formats in 2022 and has been sensational in the longest format of the game and therefore he made his return as soon as he was declared fit.
Iyer missed the Nagpur Test due to a lower back injury. Meanwhile, head coach Rahul Dravid had confirmed that if the Mumbai-born cricketer would be fit enough to play, he will walk straight into the team and that is what happened in Delhi. On the other hand, the Suryakumar experiment failed in the previous match as the 32-year-old could score only eight runs.
Meanwhile for Australia, Travis Head made his return to the playing XI. The 29-year-old has been sensational in red-ball cricket in the last one year and Australia definitely missed his service in the previous match. Matt Renshaw made way for the cricketer while Australia also named left-arm spinner Matthew Kuhnemann in the playing XI. The debutant was handed his Baggy Green by Marnus Labuschagne as his teammates were seen congratulating him in the middle. Notably, he replaced Scott Boland in the squad.
