IND vs AUS: MCG crowd record tip to fall with Ahmedabad Test in presence of Australian and Indian Prime Ministers
The fourth Test will commence on March 9, where Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese will be present with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The game of Cricket has always been a crowd puller ever since the limited overs format began. It has been more entertaining specially after the advent of the shortest format. But over the years one thing remained stagnant in terms of records despite several stadiums having witnessed their renovation over the course of time.
That one thing which remained special and unchanged has been the total crowd attendance and the seating capacity of the grand 'G' called the Melbourne Cricket Ground aka MCG situated in Melbourne, Australia. The MCG was built way back in 1853.
Speaking of the total seating capacity, the ground can accommodate 1,00,024 people approximately that includes the standing rooms. The record attendance of 90,293 became memorable after the opening game of arch-rivals India and Pakistan during the last T20 World Cup. The ground majorly hosts Cricket and other events such as Rugby, Australian Rules Football, and Soccer.
But come this Thursday and the long-standing crowd record can tumble courtesy of the Narendra Modi Stadium situated in Ahmedabad, India. Notably, the ground has the largest seating capacity in the world with 1,32,000 seats. At this juncture, it cannot get more exciting with the fact that India will lock horns with Australia in the fourth Test with the WTC final berth in their radar, while Australia will have a chance to equalize the Border-Gavaskar Test series.
Australian and Indian Prime Ministers expected to mark their attendance in fourth Test
Now, talking of the crowd records in terms of Test cricket, the 2013-14 edition of 'The Ashes' series saw a total attendance of 91,112 for a day's play at the MCG. This can get surpassed easily if the Ahmedabad stadium manages to fill its total seating capacity. Albeit, some Australian fans were worried about getting their tickets due to preference given to students and their families but as per AAP those concerns have already been addressed.
Notably, with the new Ahmedabad stadium all set to shatter the records, the Australian Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese, and the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, will mark their presence before the play resumes for conducting the opening ceremony.
Interestingly enough, after the mammoth rebuilding work of the stadium back in 2021, the ground got its name after the Indian Prime Minster himself. Meanwhile, speaking of the final Test, India have already retained the 2023 edition of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The hosts currently lead the series by 2-1. On the contrary, Australia will aim to finish the series evenly by keeping their pride at stake intact.
