India skipper, Rohit Sharma, was absolutely sensational in the first innings of the ongoing first Test against Australia in Nagpur. When no other batter could tackle Todd Murphy, the 35-year-old played a meticulous innings, which bailed India out of a precarious situation. Leading by example, Rohit amassed 120 runs, before Pat Cummins rattled his off-stump.

However, by then the Nagpur-born cricketer had already become the first Indian captain to hit a century across formats. On the spin-friendly track, he decided to give himself some time before going after the bowlers and that worked wonders for the cricketer. After getting the much-needed start, Rohit kept on pilling the runs before Cummins got the better of him in the 81st over of India’s innings.

After his dismissal, the opener looked back in disbelief as the hosts were 229 for six. Meanwhile, in his well constructed innings, Sharma hit 15 boundaries and two sixes.

Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel hold fort for the hosts on Day 2

After Rohit Sharma’s dismissal, Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel played some beautiful cricket to keep India in pole position after Day 2 at Nagpur. After picking a fifer with the ball, the returning Jadeja played some superb cricket and remained not out on 66 after the end of the day’s play. Meanwhile, Axar Patel supported him perfectly, scoring 52* at the stumps.

On Day 1 in particular, Jadeja was remarkably impressive with his bowling giving glimpses of his calibre. He was able to outfox batters with deliveries that turned square but also managed to produce deliveries that held their line only to add to the woes of the visitors.

With that India are currently leading by 144 runs after Day 2. With the ball, young sensation Todd Murphy picked up five wickets to put India in trouble but the other bowlers couldn’t support him well as India are currently in the driver’s seat.
