Day 2 of the second Test between India and Australia was a rather fruitful one for the Aussies as compared to their performance in the first match. Thanks to the knocks of Usman Khawaja and Peter Handscomb, Australia were able to score 263 at the end of their first innings.

Team India, however, has been unable to follow up on their performance from the first Test. Skipper Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Cheteshwar Pujara, Shreyas Iyer and KS Bharat all fell to Nathan Lyon, who was fabulous for his side on Day 2. Axar Patel’s knock was the one positive for India, as the 29-year-old propelled his side to a score of 262 by scoring 74 off 115 balls.

Axar’s inspiring knock finally came to an end after he was dismissed by the 22-year-old Todd Murphy, who has been sensational for Australia in the series. Skipper Pat Cummins took an impressive catch following a dive to dismiss Axar Patel, who looked to be in good rhythm.

Australia will look to improve on their performance on Day 3

After improving on their performance in the first Test, the Australians began their second innings by losing Usman Khawaja, who had been sensational for the side in the first innings. After scoring 81 runs in the first innings, Khawaja only managed to score six runs in the second innings before he was sent back to the pavilion by Ravindra Jadeja.

Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne remained at the crease at the end of Day 2. Both batters will look to build on their innings and maintain their lead over India. The hosts will once again depend on Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, and Axar Patel to come through for them and provide them with early breakthroughs on Day 3.
