India posted their highest score against Australia in ODIs as the two teams locked horns in the second ODI of the three-match series on Sunday, September 24 at Holkar Cricket Stadium, Indore. After being put in to bat first, the Men in Blue posted a mammoth score of 399/5 in their allotted 50 overs riding on hundreds from Shubman Gill (104 off 97) and Shreyas Iyer (105 off 90).

In reply, Australia didn’t get off to a good start as opener Matthew Short got dismissed for 9 off 8 by Prasidh Krishna in the second over. Steve Smith, who’s captaining the side in the game today, walked in at number three to take the innings ahead. However, much to his team’s dismay, he got dismissed on the very first ball trying to chase a wide one.

The Australian skipper wanted to get his innings underway but ended up edging a wide delivery by Krishna straight to Shubman Gill in the first slip and got dismissed for a golden duck. As a result, Australia were in all sorts of trouble at 9/2 after 1.3 overs.

Watch Smith’s dismissal here:

Earlier in the first innings, India also didn’t get a good start as Ruturaj Gaikwad got dismissed for just 8 in the fourth over of the innings with just 16 runs on the board. After the early blow, Shreyas Iyer and Shubman Gill stitched a massive 200-run stand off 173 balls to bring their team into ascendancy.

Suryakumar Yadav goes berserk in the end

Captain KL Rahul also came out all guns blazing and scored a quick-fire 52 off 38 balls smashing three fours and as many sixes. He even launched Cameron Green out of the stadium as the ball travelled a massive 94 metres after it left his bat. Suryakumar Yadav also scored his second consecutive fifty of the series as he played a breathtaking knock of 72* (37) clobbering six fours and six sixes in his innings.
