Watching Shreyas Iyer bat and dominate opposition bowlers at times is a common sight on the cricketing field but watching him roll his arm over in a contest is extremely rare. Iyer is known for his batting exploits and can be rarely seen gunning to take a wicket with the ball in his hand.

But the same was on display when he was asked by skipper Rohit Sharma to provide India a breakthrough as Australia skipper Steven Smith and Usman Khawaja were trying to steady Australia's ship.

Rohit asked Shreyas to bowl the 62nd over and he obliged. But what unfolded came as a slight surprise as Shreyas first bowled a conventional leg spin delivery to smith and followed it up with an off break delivery to Khawaja.

The delivery that he bowled to Smith ended up being a full toss and Smith just drove it down the ground for a single. The very next ball was a conventional off spin delivery bowled to Khawaja who just shouldered his arms and let it comfortably pass into the gloves of wicket-keeper KS Bharat.

Even-steven affair on Day 1 of Ahmedabad Test

Australia won the toss and elected to bat first. They got off to a sturdy start as the pair of Travis Head and Usman Khawaja added 61 for the opening wicket before Head fell prey to India's premier off spinner Ravichandran Ashwin. Though wickets continued to tumble from one end, Khawaja held the other end together and played with a lot of grit to ultimately reach his first-ever Test ton against India.

Khawaja carried his bat as he remained unbeaten on 104 off 251 deliveries, including 15 fours and ensured Australia finish in a good position - 255/4. For India, Mohammed Shami picked up two wickets and Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja got themselves one each.
