Star India batter Shreyas Iyer scored his third ODI hundred on Sunday, September 24 during the second ODI vs Australia at Holkar Cricket Stadium, Indore. The 28-year-old completed his hundred off 86 balls with a single against Adam Zampa and was pumped up after achieving the milestone. Iyer quickly took off his helmet and shouted ecstatically to celebrate his landmark in the third innings after his comeback to the Indian team.

The Mumbai-born batter began his innings positively and completed his half-century off 41 balls. The innings was extremely crucial for the middle-order batter as it was his first big knock after making a comeback to the team following a long layoff due to injury. He recently returned to the team after back surgery during the Asia Cup 2023 but got ruled out once again after playing just two games due to a back spasm.

In the first ODI, the 28-year-old was unfortunately run out for a low score raising further questions on his form. However, he shut all his critics with a marvellous hundred vs Australia and made a strong case for his selection in the Playing XI in the upcoming World Cup 2023.

Iyer and Gill added 200 runs for the second wicket

Iyer got good support from Gill who also brought up his fifth ODI hundred with his knock of 104 off 97. The duo stabilised the Indian innings after the early fall of opener Ruturaj Gaikwad (8 off 12) with just 16 runs on the board and got involved in a massive 200-run partnership off 173 balls.

Apart from them, captain KL Rahul also came out all guns blazing and scored a quick-fire 52 off 38 balls smashing three fours and as many sixes. He even launched Cameron Green out of the stadium as the ball travelled a massive 94 metres after it left his bat. Suryakumar Yadav also scored his second consecutive fifty of the series playing a breathtaking knock of 72* (37) clobbering six fours and six sixes in his innings.

As a result, India posted their highest ODI score vs Australia 399/5 in their allotted 50 overs.
