IND vs AUS: Shubman Gill, Shardul Thakur rested from third ODI in Rajkot

Shubman Gill and Shardul Thakur will not take part in India's third and final ODI against Australia at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot on September 27. They are likely to travel to join the team in Guwahati. Team India will play their warm-up game of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 against defending champions England on September 30 at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati.
Gill was instrumental for India in the first two ODIs, having scored a half-century and a hundred, respectively. The 24-year-old has so far scored five ODI centuries this year, two against New Zealand, and one each against Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Australia. He has scored 1230 runs in 20 innings at an average of 72.35 runs per innings and a strike rate of 105.03, making him the top ODI run-scorer in 2023.
Shardul Thakur, on the other hand, failed to pick any wicket in both the ODIs. The all-rounder also did not get a chance to bat in the game.
India beat Australia by 99 runs in the second ODI
Team India outplayed Australia by 99 runs using the DLS method in a rain-marred second ODI at the Holkar Stadium in Indore on September 24. With this win, India took an unassailable 2-0 lead and clinched the series.
Speaking of the clash, Australia won the toss and invited India to bat first. Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer's centuries helped India to set a 400-run target for the tourists. Apart from them, KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav also provided a significant contribution, scoring respective half-centuries. For Australia, all-rounder Cameron Green picked up two wickets.
Rain played spoilsport after the start of the second innings and India set a revised target of 317 in 33 overs after the play was resumed. Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin claimed a three-wicket haul as India bundled out Australia for 217 in 28.2 overs. David Warner and Sean Abbot top-scored for Australia, scoring 53 and 54 runs, respectively.
