IND vs AUS: Virat Kohli got stumped for first time in Tests

India star batter Virat Kohli was stumped for the first time in his Test career on Day 3 of the second Test against Australia in Delhi on February 19. The incident took place in the 19th over bowled by the Australian spinner, Todd Murphy, who made his debut in the first Test. Kohli missed the line of delivery and the Aussie stumper Alex Carey was lightening quick behind the wickets.

In India’s first innings, Kohli scored 44 runs before falling victim to a controversial lbw decision. In the second innings, Virat Kohli could only manage to score 20 runs, leaving India at 69-3. However, he broke a world record for the fastest 25,000 runs in international cricket, reaching the milestone in 549 innings. The record was previously held by the Indian legendary batter Sachin Tendulkar (577 innings).

Previously, Kohli only scored 12 runs in the first Test at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur. The visitors were bundled out Australia in their two innings as the hosts won the first Test by an innings and 132 runs. The hosts beat Australia in the second Test in Delhi by 6 wickets to take a 2-0 lead in the four-match series. This was India's 100th win agaisnt Australia across formats in international cricket. 

In the second Test in Delhi, Australia won the toss and opted to bat first. The visitors posted 263 and India in their first innings, scored 262. Meanwhile, Australia were bundled out for 113 in their second innings. Chasing 115, India beat Australia by 6 wickets, with Cheteshwar Pujara hitting the winning runs in his 100th Test. The hosts now took a 2-0 lead and also retained the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Kohli scored his last Test half-century against South Africa 13 innings ago. From there on, the right-handed batter has scored only 262 runs at an average of 21.83 in the red-ball format. However, he created a terrific record in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy as he amassed 1758 runs in 22 Tests, which includes seven centuries. The 34-year-old batter will look forward to scoring his 28th Test century to end his century drought in the longest format since 2019.
