Kohli's heartening gesture came after the fourth Test in Ahmedabad ended in a stalemate on Day 5. Australia played 78.1 overs and scored 175 for the loss of two wickets before both Steve Smith and Rohit Sharma mutually decided to bring the game to a close.

Australia had all their ten wickets intact coming into Day 5 and Matthew Kuhnemann and Travis Head began the proceedings for the visitors. Kuhnemann got out in the 11th over of Australia's innings. But Travis Head didn't get flustered after losing his partner at the other end and went on to score 90.

Head played really well for his knock and was undone by Axar Patel. Axar landed one in the rough patch outside Head's off stump and forced him to drive, Head missed the drive and the ball sneaked past his bat and cannoned into the stumps.

Head's wicket gave India a ray of hope but skipper Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne came together in the middle and closed the door that once seemed ajar for a moment. Smith and Labuschagne put together 22 runs after Head and Labuschagne were involved in a 139-run partnership.

India could not break past Smith and Labuschagne and ultimately both Smith and Rohit Sharma mutually decided to end the game in a stalemate.
