Ahead of the third ODI between India and England in Ahmedabad on February 12, International Cricket Council (ICC) Chairman Jay Shah announced the launch of an organ donation awareness initiative "Donate Organs, Save Lives." This initiative has used the platform of cricket to spread awareness about the importance of organ donation and encourage people to pledge their organs to save lives.
Organ donation has become a crucial medical need in India, with thousands of patients waiting for life-saving transplants. Despite advancements in medical science, the awareness and willingness to donate organs after death remain low. The initiative, to be conducted at the Narendra Modi Stadium, plans to bridge this gap by educating the public about the impact of organ donation.
"On the occasion of the 3rd ODI between India and England in Ahmedabad on February 12th, we are proud to launch an awareness initiative - "Donate Organs, Save Lives." Sport has the power to inspire, unite, and create lasting impact beyond the field. Through this initiative, we urge everyone to take a step towards giving the greatest gift of all - the gift of life. One pledge, one decision, can save multiple lives. Let’s come together and make a difference," Shah tweeted.
