IND vs ENG 2025: Jos Buttler dissects England's performance after 1st T20I loss
England suffered a crushing seven-wicket loss in the first T20I of the series against India.
England were no match for India in the recently-concluded first T20I of the five-match series. They could not make the most of the conditions after being sent in to bat, ending up with a scanty 132 on the board. The run-chase was light work by the hosts, who managed to hunt down the target with seven wickets and 43 deliveries in the bank.
English white-ball skipper, Jos Buttler, gave an honest assessment of the conditions presented to them in Kolkata and admitted that they did not make the most of them. However, he was optimistic for the remainder of the series.
"There was a little bit in the wicket early on, probably didn't expect that. It looked like a really good wicket, they found a little bit of movement and we lost a couple of wickets. But if you come through that phase, it's a pretty good pitch and obviously a fast-scoring ground. Some really good players in there, we wanted to enforce the game that we want to play and we weren't quite capable of doing that today against some good bowlers but we're better for the run-out and we're looking forward to the next one," stated Buttler during the post-match presentation.
Buttler also commented on Jofra Archer and Mark Wood's outings.
"He (Jofra Archer) always looks good, he's a superstar, he looked threatening. Thought he could have had a few more wickets there. Mark Wood was bowling fast as well. To see two of them operate in tandem is exciting," he added.

I'm a big McCullum fan: Buttler
Buttler went on to assert the brand of cricket the team had vowed to demonstrate. He also shared his emotions while working alongside all-format head coach, Brendon McCullum.
"We want to be aggressive, we want to be watchable. We are up against a team who are ultra-aggressive as well, so it's really exciting. Venue to venue, you got to assess the conditions and play well. I am really enjoying the environment. I am a big McCullum fan, I always was when he was playing, so great to be working with him in the dressing room now," noted Buttler.
Buttler was the lone man who stood up to the occasion yesterday. His 44-ball 68 was one of the primary reasons for England to get to the total they eventually posted on the board.
