The match at the Barabati Stadium at Cuttack between India and England ended in celebration for the hosts as they claimed their 12th overall series win against England in ODI cricket.
However, there were still some problems that were faced by the players and the officials on the ground. One of the major issues which caused a long interruption in the game was the floodlight failure as one of the six light towers at the venue suddenly went off during the game, leading to over a half an hour delay in the match. At the time of stoppage, India were 48/0 in 6.1 overs.
Director of Sports for Odisha government Siddharta Das issued a show-cause notice concerning the Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) on the matter.
“The Odisha Cricket Association is hereby directed to submit a detailed explanation for the cause of the disruption and identify the persons/agencies who were responsible for such lapses and outline the measures taken to prevent similar incidents in the future," a notice sent by Siddhartha Das read.
“The findings must be submitted within 10 days upon receipt of this letter, this incident led to a 30-minute suspension of the match, causing inconvenience to players and spectators,” the notice added.
This notice was addressed to OCA secretary Sanjay Behera and the CEO of the association Subrata Behera, who played 12 first-class matches and four List A games for the state.
Speaking of the match, things went in favor of India who chased down 304 set by England thanks to the spectacular century by Player of the Match Rohit Sharma, who slammed 12 fours and seven sixes in his 119 off 90 to set up a four-wicket win for his team in the end.
With this, India have taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. The series finale set to be played in Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium on February 12.
