IND vs ENG 2025: Why are players wearing green arm bands in third ODI?
India and England players were spotted wearing green arm bands in the third ODI in Ahmedabad.
England are playing their last game on their tour to India in Ahmedabad. The two teams locked horns in third and final ODI at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium on February 12. Ahead of the game, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced an "Donate Organs, Save Lives" initiative to support the cause of organ donation.
As both teams took ground in Ahmedabad, the players were seen sporting a green armband as a part of the noble initiative, which encourages people to pledge their organs. It is worth noting that, India head coach Gautam Gambhir haspledged to donate his organs at the launch of the initiative.
Right after the toss, BCCI uploaded a video where India players came out in support of the initiative and expressed their thought over the issue. Star players such as Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, Mohammed Shami and others were part of the video.
“The two teams are wearing green arm bands to support BCCI’s initiative "Donate Organs, Save Lives”. The initiative is spearheaded by ICC Chairman Mr Jay Shah. Pledge, spread the word, and let's be a part of something truly meaningful. #DonateOrgansSaveLives,” BCCI said in a statement.
Former India cricketer Suresh Raina, who is part of the broadcasting panel, appreciated BCCI for taking thoughtful step towards the good initiative which can impact lives of many individuals. "It should be applauded. Whatever the board has done to help India's medical fraternity and the doctors is commendable. Well done, BCCI," Raina said from the commentary box.
