IND vs NZ 2024: India concede 100-plus leads consecutively for first time since 2001
India have never lost a Test series at home since 2012.
Indian team has been dominant in Test cricket at home. They have never lost a Test series at home since 2012 and moreover, they have lost just three Tests at home since 2013. But the record seems in danger as New Zealand won the first Test in Bengaluru and might potentially outclass India in the ongoing Test in Pune.
The striking aspect of New Zealand’s dominance and India’s struggle in the ongoing series is the fact that, the hosts conceded a lead of more than 100 runs on both instances. In the first Test, the visitors generated a lead of 356 runs. At the end of Day 2 in the Pune Test, New Zealand led by 301 runs with five wickets in hand.

With these developments, one stat that has emerged out is that India have conceded a lead of more than 100 runs on successive occasions, for the first time since 2001. It is worth noting that, in the second Test, New Zealand won the toss and opted to bat first. The hosts bowled out the Kiwis for 259 runs and failed to replicate the same with the bat.
India on verge of losing their long-held home record
The Indian batters struggled and it resulted in a score of just 156. With a lead of 103 runs, Tom Latham led the charge with 86 runs as other batters played cameos. Though the BlackCaps lost five wickets in the process, Tom Blundell and Glenn Phillips remained unbeaten on 30 and nine, respectively. The tourists ended Day 2 on 198/5 and a lead of 301 runs.

For India, Washington Sundar picked four wickets and Ravichandran Ashwin chipped in with one wicket. Sundar also played crucial role in the first innings as he picked career best figures of 7/59 and helped India in their cause of saving the potential series loss.
