'I have been having a great year' - Shubman Gill's retort to journalist's run-drought question

Shubman Gill stood tall when India lost quick wickets against New Zealand in the third Test at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Gill scored 30 and 23 runs in the second in Pune but bettered himself certainly in the Mumbai Test ast he right-handed batter scored a responsible 90 off 146 and also stitched a crucial 96-run stand with Rishabh Pant for the fifth wicket. 

At the end of Day 2, he was queried by a journalist over his run drought and mindset while batting at the Wankhede Stadium. The 25-year-old was assertive in response and stated thar he consistently scored runs but could not convert those into a big numbers.

Journalist: Ever since you have moved to the No.3 position, is there pressure on you jab runs nahi bante (when the runs don't come)? What's the mindset then?

"Like me, personally? I think I have been having a great year. I played the last Test, I got two starts, I was not able to convert, that is a different thing. But I was very confident going into this innings, I had no pressure on me,” said Gill.

New Zealand were not very consistent with their line and length: Gill

India’s top order has had a dismal outing in the series as the likes of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have failed to come among runs. It was the same case in the third Test as India found themselves reeling on 84/4. Pant and Gill’s 96-run stand came as a respite as India managed to secure a lead for the first time in the series.

"I think when you put the bowlers under pressure, it's difficult for them to bowl in that area consistently and that's what we talked about. I think the way Rishabh came in and started hitting those boundaries, in that particular session they were not very consistent with their line and length, so that's why we were able to cash in," Gill added.
