IND vs NZ 2024: Virat Kohli becomes active cricketer with joint-most ducks
Rohit is third on the list with 33 ducks to his name.
India took on New Zealand in the first Test at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. As Day 1 of the Test on October 16 was abandoned without the toss, India won the coin flip on Day 2 and opted to bat first. After Rohit Sharma was outdone in the seventh over, Virat Kohli followed suit in the ninth over as his struggle was palpable in his nine-ball stay.
Tom Latham fielded six slips for the veteran, and he edged one to the leg slip without opening his account. While doing so, he created an unwanted record of registering most ducks for an active cricketer in international cricket. He got dismissed without getting off the mark 38 times to share the spit with New Zealand pacer, Tim Southee. Rohit is third on the list with 33 ducks to his name.
Active cricketers with most ducks in internationals:
S.No. | Player Name | Country | Ducks |
1 | Tim Southee | New Zealand | 38 |
- | Virat Kohli | India | 38 |
2 | Rohit Sharma | India | 33 |

New Zealand pacers made use of the overcast conditions in Bengaluru as they ripped apart the Indian top-order. The India captain was cleaned up by Southee and Kohli was outsmarted by William O’Rourke. Sarfaraz Khan (0) too struggled at first before aiming for a big heave off Matt Henry and hole out to Devon Conway.

“It has been under the covers, and we do understand that it could be slightly sticky early on, but the nature of the pitch is such that you would want to put runs on the board first. You want to get the result as much as we want. We assess where we are, and decide what needs to be done as a team. We have played well in the last few Test matches,” said Rohit at the toss.
