Winning skipper KL Rahul
I am happy. Good to have a win under the belt. Completely different to what we expected. The plan was to get the spinners in the game. The boys did really well. The boys did well to stay disciplined. The ball kept moving around. There is a lot of cricket being played. You priortize one format. For now, it is Tests and T20s. Everyone is performing and trying to do well for the country. Good chance for them to get a taste of international cricket.
ARSHDEEP SINGH IS POTM
Arshdeep Singh, the pacer who took 5/37 today, has been adjudged as the Player of the Match.
I feel little sore. Loving this moment. Thank God and the team management. It is a little different than normal grounds as I was running out of breathe. Personally it feels good, I am enjoying my role. I would thank Rahul bhai as he said you have to come back and get that fifer. I guess it is about enjoying this moment. When we go there, then focus on what will work there.
POST MATCH PRESENTATION
Aiden Markram: Tough one. Winning the toss, batting first we would have wanted to bat well. Credit to the Indian bowlers. We were behind from the very first ball. Couldn't recover. We expected it to go around a little bit. In the first 6-7 overs, it does do a bit. Today, it lasted a little longer and they bowled well. Comes down to individuals. It is up to them to assess and then plan it forward. We need to take smart options in a given situation.
Sudharsan The STAR
Sai Sudharsan becomes the 17th Indian batter to score a fifty on ODI debut. What a day for the young man!!!

INDIA WIN BY 8 WICKETS WITH 200 BALLS TO SPARE.
India win by 8 wickets
Sai Sudharsan hits the winning runs for the Men in Blue. A clinical victory for India. Everything seemed to be on point from the very beginning. It must be a good feeling for the debutant to hit down the curtains in his maiden game, ending with a well-composed knock. At the end, a victory by 8 wickets for KL Rahul & Co.
Dropped!!
SS goes for the upper cut, ends in edging it to the first slip, who eventually drops a regulation take.
Scores level
A boundary from the bat of Sai Sudharsan levels the scores.
Tilak Varma walks in
The left-handed batter is in to add the finishing touch to the game for India's clinical victory, which seems inevitable now.
Gone!!
Right after reaching his fifty, Iyer departs with India requiring just six runs to win. He went for the big hit, but failed to do so, as the ball found the edge of his blade to hand a simple catch at point. Andile Phehlukwayo strikes in his first over.
Iyer follows suit
With boundaries of consecutive deliveries, Shreyas Iyer, too, has reached his fifty, as India are one hit away from a win.
Sudharsan on fire
Sai Sudharsan gets to his maiden international fifty on debut. Take a bow!!!. He's surely going to remember it for a long, long time.
Another boundary
Sai Sudharsan is looking to make his outing a memorable one, as he is nearing his half-century.
Boundary for Sudharsan
Sai Sudharsan puts the ball in the gap for yet another boundary.
Spin from both ends
Tabraiz Shamsi is being introduced, as the spin is being thrown from both ends now.
Inside out.
Artistic shot by Shreyas Iyer to grab a crucial boundary for the Men in Blue. Majority of the runs have been scored already.
Spin time
Keshav Maharaj is into the attack to roll his arm over.
Oops!!!
Shreyas Iyer loses the grip of his bat, as the bat flies high in the air. But the shot was hit with enough power to grab a couple of runs. The ball, too, was in the air, but away from the fielder's reach.
Four for Iyer
Shreyas Iyer gets a boundary to add to his tally of runs. India cruising towards an easy win here.
Boundary
Sai Sudharsan plays a controlled pull shot to score a boundary.
End of seven overs
India are 37/1.
Shreyas Iyer comes in
Shreyas Iyer, the Mumbai-born batter, is in to bat at three. He gets off the mark with a boundary off a straight drive. Good start for him.
Appeal and SA go up straightaway
Ruturaj Gaikwad has to depart, as this time SA decided to go for the review. The replay shows hitting and first man is down for the Indians.
Four more
Another cover drive brings a boundary for Sudharsan.
Nice shot
Width on offer, and Sudharsan grabs the opportunity with both hands. Another boundary for the southpaw.
NO BALL and FREE HIT
Wiaan Mulder oversteps, as Ruturaj Gaikwad sends the Free Hit ball for a boundary.
Sai 'Lucky' Sudharsan
On the fifth ball of the previous over, there was a huge shout for lbw, but umpire denied raising his finger. South Africa, too, decided not to review. However, the TV replay shows that it was 'three reds', and Sudharsan is lucky to have gotten away with that.
End of the first over
India are 6 without loss after the first over.
What a way to open your account!!!
Sai Sudharsan hits a brilliant cover drive to get off the mark with a boundary. He begins his 'blue journey' with a bang.
First runs on the board
Ruturaj Gaikwad is off the mark with a single. Two debutants face off now.
The chase begins
Indian openers Ruturaj Gaikwad and Sai Sudharsan are out in the middle to chase down 117 runs in 50 overs. South African pacers will surely want to make their time hard at the crease.
While one debutant opens the batting, another debutant Burger has the ball in his hands to open the proceedings for the Proteas.
Not-a-good stat to have!
116 vs India today is the lowest ODI total for South Africa in home games. They surely would want to forget this day.
Nice stat to have!
Indian bowlers with fifers vs South Africa in 50-over cricket:
5/6 - Sunil Joshi, Nairobi, 1999
5/22 - Y Chahal, Centurion, 2018
5/33 - Ravindra Jadeja, Kolkata, 2023
5/37 - Arshdeep Singh, Johannesburg*
A day to remember!
Arshdeep Singh becomes the first Indian pacer to take a fifer versus South Africa in One-Day cricket.

Arshdeep - The Star with the ball
Arshdeep Singh: I was under a bit of pressure because I never took any wicket in ODIs before. Happy to get a fifth. The wicket had purchase early on and the plan was to get some LBWs and bowleds. (Having the new ball) Our team's main motto is adaptibility. Whether I open or bowl first-change, I'm happy representing my country. (10 overs in first 25 overs) It was quite hot as well. I was playing a 50-over game after a year. But it all paid off, and after my five-for, I feel very fresh. (Shows the ball to the camera) We thought surface would be abrasive too but there was a bit of moisture on the surface."
Innings Summary
SOUTH AFRICA - 116/10 (27.3 overs)
Andile Phehlukwayo - 33(49); Tony de Zorzi - 22(28)
Arshdeep Singh - 5/37 (10); Avesh Khan 4/27 (8)
INDIA need 117 runs to win from 50 overs.
Kuldeep does the trick
Rahul re-introduces spin against tail-enders, and Kuldeep does exactly what he was brought for. South Africa have been bundled out for 116, and Indian batters have a subpar target to chase when they come out.
27 overs done
South Africa are 116/9.
Another boundary
Shamsi is going at everything coming his way. He gets another boundary off the edge.
Four
Tabraiz Shamsi hits a boundary off Avesh.
Arshdeep bowls out
Arshdeep Singh ends his 10-over spell with five wickets, while giving away just 37 runs.
Gone, finallyyyyyy!!!
LBW, and Phehlukwayo has to depart. Fifer for Arshdeep Singh. The batter reviews, but to no avail. The ninth wicket is down, with 101 runs on the board.
In the air......
Difficult chance for fielder in the deep. That went miles in the air, and Sanju Samson could only manage his fingertips on that one. Phehlukwayo survives.
Where did that come from?
Phehlukwayo smacks Arshdeep for a six over the leg side region. Time for some action now.
Time for some spin now
KL Rahul introduces spin from one end in an attempt to grab the remaining two wickets. South Africa, meanwhile, are cruising towards the three-digit mark.
Smashed
Boundary for Phehlukwayo.
19 overs done
South Africa are 76 for 8, as Avesh Khan bowls a maiden.
Gone...!!!
Avesh Khan has his fourth wicket, as South Africa lose their eighth. Keshav Maharaj hands a simple catch to Ruturaj Gaikwad. Misery continues for the Proteas.
And another one
Back-to-back boundaries for Phehlukwayo. He hasn't given up yet it seems.
Four
Bowled onto the pads, and Andile Phehlukwayo adds a boundary to his tally.
Sai Sudharsan
The left-hand bat and debutant youngster will look to make the most out of his maiden outing for the Men in Blue. Want to know more about the batter? CLICK HERE
Welcome boundary
Keshav Maharaj hits a much-needed boundary to get some runs on the board. Can he pull off a good knock today?
14 overs done
SA are 60/7.
Another one bites the dust
Avesh Khan finds David Miller's outside-edge, as skipper-keeper takes a simple catch behind the stumps. South Africa are seven down with just 58 runs on the board.
True that...!
#TeamIndia is on a roll & how! 🙌 🙌

Two fresh batters at the crease
David Miller and Andile Phehlukwayo are the two fresh batters at the crease presently. Can the Southpaws help the Proteas recover?
11 overs done
SA are 54/6, or should we say 'SA are in deep, deep trouble'.
Unbelievable stuff. Simply unbelievable..!!!
Avesh Khan has his second wicket in the over, as Wiaan Mulder has to make the long walk back. DRS suggests three reds, as the Indian pacers are putting up a show. First ball-duck for Mulder, as Avesh Khan is on a hat-trick.
My goodness..!!!
Avesh Khan enforces the fifth wicket, as Aiden Markram chops onto his stumps. India are breathing fire currently. Forgettable outing for the Proteas so far.
Arshdeep is different blood...!!!
On the last ball of the first powerplay, Arshdeep Singh dismantles Klaasen's stumps for his fourth wicket. What a day for the pacer. Ten overs done, South Africa are 52/4.
Edged and four
Heinrich Klaasen slashes hard, and the ball goes just over the second slip for a boundary.
Change in bowling
The right-arm pacer from Indore, Avesh Khan, has been brought into the attack by KL Rahul for ninth over.
Arshdeeppppppp
The left-arm pacer is on fire today. Tony de Zorzi is the batter who has to depart. The ball gets miscued up in the air, and KL Rahul makes no mistake. Three down now South Africa. 42/3.
Sixerrrrr
De Zorzi seems to be in some mood here. He pulls Arshdeep in the gap on the leg side for his second six of the day.
Another boundary
Markram gets his first boundary to get going. 7 overs done, 35 for 2.
RECAP - Arshdeep's wickets in second over

Beautifully played..!!
De Zorzi plays a beautiful lofted drive for a boundary. Not a good over for Mukesh Kumar. Ten runs off it, as South Africa are 20/2.
SIX
Tony de Zorzi breaks the shackles with a six on the first ball of the fifth over. That is also the first boundary of the innings.
Nathan Lyon
In other news, Nathan Lyon has completed 500 wickets in Test cricket in the ongoing first Test against Pakistan at the Optus Stadium in Perth. Australia are just a couple of wickets away for grabbing yet another dominating win against the Pakistanis.

Two overs done
The Proteas are 3 for the loss of a couple. Aiden Markram will look to bring the side out of early trouble. He needs to build a small partnership with de Zorzi to get things going for the home team.
Arshdeep on fire!!
The umpire adjudged van der Dussen as 'Out' on the very first ball. However, the batter sent the matter upstairs. However, the replay says “Umpire's Call” on “hitting”, and van der Dussen has to depart for a golden duck. Arshdeep on a hat-trick.
Cleans him up..!!!
Arshdeep Singh crashes through the defence of Reeza Hendricks to hand the first breakthrough.

What should be a good total in the first innings?
What should be a good total in the first innings?
The pitch report is here...!!!
Pommie Mbangwa: "Playing on the pitch that was used a couple of days ago. Dimensions - 77 metres straight, square - 59 metres and 69 metres. A dry surface. It's a used pitch. Whoever wins the toss will want to bat first and put runs on the board. Few cracks, they haven't opened up too much. The grass is to hold it all together. 270 is an average score, last five (ODIs) - 298. You don't want to be below that. Bat first, get lots of runs."
Are you ready for the Pink Day?

Indian skipper KL Rahul speaks
No (haven't played since the WC final) Special day. Seen lots of pink ODIs on TV. Would've chosen to bat too, same strip as the T20. There was spin and it was dry in that T20. Sudarshan on his well-deserved debut, Ruturaj, Tilak, Sanju as always a name that's exciting for the fans. Axar, Kuldeep would love to see this pitch. (IPL exposure) They know what pressure is, how to handle themselves under pressure. They come with that intensity's experience.

Markram: We are gonna bat first. Used wicket, we'd like to bat first, we are playing two spinners. It's a fantastic day, hats off to the people. Hopefully both teams can put on a nice show for them. Burger makes his debut - special day for him. Opportunities are vital, none better than today.

Adios Amigos..!!
Good afternoon people. Welcome to the live blog of the first ODI between South Africa and India. This is the first 50-over game to be played by both the teams after they ended their World Cup campaign in agonies. However, the world has moved on and the next target for the teams will be preparing for the Champions Trophy 2025.
India find a new captain in the form of KL Rahul, while South Africa look to keep their home record against the opposition strong. Toss coming up soon. Stay tuned for real-time updates, only on CricTracker.
In the wake of a thrilling T20I series that ended in a 1-1 draw, cricket fans are gearing up for the upcoming 3-match ODI series between India and South Africa. Although the World T20 is just six months away, this ODI series holds significance as it marks the beginning of the journey toward the next World Cup for both teams.
For the Proteas, the void of Quinton de Kock and Temba Bavuma opens doors for new talents like Reeza Hendricks and Tony de Zorzi, who look to establish themselves as key players in the batting lineup. The middle order boasts the likes of Rassie Van Der Dussen, Aiden Markram, Heinrich Klaasen, and David Miller, forming a formidable core.
In the bowling department, the rest period for Marco Jansen and Gerald Coetzee paves the way for Andile Phelukwayo and Wiaan Mulder, bringing a fresh perspective to the team's strategy. Tabraiz Shamsi and the fast bowling options complete the lineup, ready to face the Indian challenge.
Team India, on the other hand, enters the ODI series with a rejuvenated squad, featuring a mix of experienced and promising youngsters. With the senior players getting a breather, names like Ruturaj Gaikwad, Rajat Patidar, and Sai Sudharsan look to make a mark in the middle order. Sanju Samson and Yuzvendra Chahal return to the squad, adding depth and experience.
Wanderers, Johannesburg Pitch Report:
The Wanderers' pitch offers quick pace and bounce, favoring aggressive stroke play. Historically, the Wanderers has been a venue where chasing teams have found success. Notably, the famous 434-run game showcased the venue's propensity for high-scoring encounters. Therefore, winning the toss and opting to chase has been a successful strategy in the past. Bowlers can exploit pace and bounce initially and for that reason, batters will have to spend some time on the crease before playing aggressive shots.
Weather Conditions
The weather forecast includes a 25% chance of a thunderstorm in the afternoon, adding an element of unpredictability. Overall, an exciting contest between bat and ball awaits in the first ODI of the series between India and South Africa.
