Rohit Sharma-led team India registered a massive win by 67 runs in the first of the three-match ODI series at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati. Amid the final over of the second innings, Rohit withdrew an appeal for run out at the non-striker's end as pacer Mohammed Shami dismissed Sri Lanka skipper Dasun Shanaka.

Notably, Shanaka was batting on 98 at the time. However, India skipper Rohit walked towards Shami and had a light chat as they decided to withdraw the appeal. Shanaka hammered a boundary to get to the century followed by a massive six over midwicket to conclude the match with an unbeaten score of 108 runs from 88 balls.

Virat Kohli’s century fires India to win

Speaking about the match, the Lankan skipper put the hosts to bat first after winning the toss. A combined batting performance from the Indian top-order propelled the side to a massive total of 373.

While flamboyant batter Kohli slammed a century (113 runs) Rohit (83) and Shubman Gill (70) notched up half-centuries to steer India to the massive total. The bowlers eventually worked in tandem to get the side to the massive win by 67 runs as they mounted pressure on the Lankan batters in the second innings.

"We started off really well and to get that total was a great effort from all the batters. The platform was set to come out and play freely. I thought we could've bowled slightly better, but don't want to be too critical of it although the dew was not so much. We bowled well as a unit and if you want to win games like this, everyone has to come to the party," told Rohit in the post-match presentation.

"There are some areas we need to look at as a group and again it's a team sport. No, I mean I had no idea Shami did that. Again, he's batting on 98 and the way he batted was brilliant. Cannot get him out like that and wanted to get him out the way we wanted to get him out. Hats off to him," he added.
