Replacing injured Yuzvendra Chahal in the second ODI, Kuldeep Yadav was fantastic with his line and length as the left-armer picked up three crucial wickets and set the tone of the match in India’s favour. Courtesy of his and Mohammed Siraj’s brilliance, the Men in Blue bundled Sri Lanka for 215 runs in the first innings and later registered a comfortable four-wicket victory at Eden Gardens.
Talking about his performance after the match, Kuldeep thanked Chahal for his valuable inputs during the game. Yadav stated that even though they are not playing together at the moment, Chahal helped him to enhance his game in the match.
“I would like to thank you for your suggestions. You played the entire T20I series and the previous one-dayer as well. I was coming into white-ball cricket straight from a Test match. You gave inputs. Since you were playing so much with the boys, you had an idea of how to bowl, so thank you for it. These small inputs are very important. Of course, we are not playing together so much on the field these days, but the outside inputs I get from you are also very helpful,” Kuldeep told Chahal on BCCI TV.
Hearing this, Chahal cracked a joke stating that he was already Suryakumar Yadav’s batting coach and now has become Kuldeep’s bowling coach. It is known for fans that Chahal never leaves a chance to entertain fans with his hilarious antics.
“Surya ke to hum batting coach hain, ab Kuldeep Yadav ke bhi bowling coach ban gaye. Yeh note kar lijiye. (I am already Surya's batting coach; now I am Kuldeep Yadav's bowling coach too. Note this),” Chahal said.
Team combinations are important, I don’t think too much about it: Kuldeep
Despite performing well in the limited opportunities, Kuldeep Yadav has failed to break into the team on a consistent basis. However, after being adjudged as the Player of the Match in the second ODI, the 28-year-old stated that he doesn't think too much about selections as he understands the importance of team combination.
“When you play, you have to be focused while you can be relaxed when you aren’t in the 11. At the moment, I’m really enjoying my bowling. However, team combinations are important, I don’t think too much about it, just focused on doing my best when the chances come. You need to keep innovating,” Kuldeep said in the post-match presentation.
