The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) named Shivam Dube as the replacement for the injured Nitish Reddy in the Indian squad for the upcoming tour of Zimbabwe.
India are set to face Zimbabwe in a five-match T20I series next month, starting with the first game on July 6. All five matches are scheduled to be held at the Harare Sports Club. The BCCI recently announced a 15-member squad for the first assignment of the Indian team following the 2024 T20 World Cup. Shubman Gill has been given the responsibility of leading the side for the first time.
The Punjab batter has several youngsters in the squad as most of the senior players have been rested. Nitish, who won the Emerging Player award in the Indian Premier League (IPL) this year, was among the four players who had received their maiden call-ups to the national team. However, in a heartbreaking turn of events, the Sunrisers Hyderabad all-rounder will have to vacate his position as he is nursing an undisclosed injury.

Dube, who is currently plying his trade in the Indian team in the ongoing T20 World Cup, will be replacing Reddy in the side. The seam-bowling all-rounder's experience will come in handy for Gill and Co.
"The Men’s Selection Committee named Shivam Dube as replacement for the injured Nitish Reddy in India’s squad for the upcoming tour of Zimbabwe," the BCCI wrote in its statement.

Meanwhile, Reddy's progress is going to be monitored by the BCCI Medical Team. The 21-year-old will be gutted for sure but he has age and talent on his side and will look to come back strongly from the injury and earn his place back in the Indian team in the future.
India’s updated squad: Ꮪhubman Gill (Captain), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Abhishek Sharma, Rinku Singh, Sanju Samson (WK), Dhruv Jurel (WK), Riyan Parag, Washington Sundar, Ravi Bishnoi, Avesh Khan, Khaleel Ahmed, Mukesh Kumar, Tushar Deshpande, Shivam Dube.
