The second Women's ODI of the ongoing series between India and Ireland at the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot saw the hosts dominate in the first innings, which was powered by Jemimah Rodrigues sensational hundred. Jemimah started slow since the Indians lost two wickets in quick succession, which came after Smriti Mandhana (73 off 54) and Pratika Rawal (67 off 61)'s stellar opening stand.

The Mumbai batter joined Harleen Deol (89 off 84) at the crease, and the duo, after a watchful initial session of the partnership, started hitting boundaries for fun. Harleen and Jemimah put together a magnificent 183 runs together before the former departed just eleven runs short of a deserving hundred. Harleen's knock included 12 fours, and the batter looked in total control until she fell prey to Arlen Kelly in the 48th over of the innings.

Her departure, though, did not dent Jemimah's confidence, as she crossed the three-figure mark in just 90 balls. Earlier in her outing, the Mumbai-born had another milestone to cherish, where she completed 1000 runs in 50-over internationals. A hundred in the same game only added icing on the cake, making the day even more memorable. Her unique 'guitar' celebration after the hundred said it all of how special the feeling was for the youngster.

The Women in Blue had gotten off to an excellent start as the openers capitalized quickly on the flat Rajkot belter. Skipper Smriti and her opening partner Rawal had done their job, and it was led forward even better by Harleen and Jemimah later on. As a result, Mandhana & Co. posted 370/5 from their allotted 50 overs, which also became their highest total in the format. The joint previous best was 358, which they had posted against the same opposition in 2017, and against the West Indies in 2024.

This means a lot: Jemimah

Meanwhile, Rodrigues was delighted to speak about her knock during the mid-innings presentation. She said that it had been a really long wait for her, further expressing that she was glad to have batted till the near end of the innings.

This (century) means a lot. It's been a long wait to get this hundred. More than anything else, I'm just glad that the team gave me a role at number four and I was able to live up to that. Today, the most important thing for me was to be there till the 50th over. Because I know that getting runs is not a problem. I'm very good at getting runs. But it is just that feel of batting till the end - that was the thought process, and I'm glad I was able to do that. The hundred just came along. Initially, I took some time getting used to the conditions. I know at any moment I can accelerate, I have that game. But it was important for me to stay there," said Rodrigues.

"While I was doing that, Harleen kept telling me "just keep playing, keep playing". She also took the lead in between - that really helped me. That partnership was very crucial. She told me when she walked out - "do it for me today". Can't take any team lightly. We've been following the domestic matches that were played here. 390 was chased. So we've spoken this thing in the dressing room that whatever the total, we'll be professional to bowl according to our plans and stick to our execution," she concluded.
