IND-W vs NZ-W 2024: Schedule for ODI series announced

Indian cricket's apex governing body, the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) on Monday announced the fixtures for Team India's (Senior Women) upcoming three-match ODI series against New Zealand Women. The series which is slated to be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, is a part of the ICC Women's Championship.

The board made an official announcement through their social media handles. Notably, the series is to commence soon after the conclusion of the ongoing Women's T20 World Cup 2024 event. The limited-overs series will be crucial for the home side as they are to play hosts of the ODI World Cup, which is a few months away from now. Harmanpreet Kaur will lead the Women in Blue as the first ODI is set to kick off on (Thursday) October 24. Besides, there will be two more ODI games will be played in the follow-up.

Meanwhile, India Women suffered a setback after they lost a crucial fixture against Australia on Sunday. As a result, it is quite uncertain if they will advance to the semifinal round unless Pakistan beat New Zealand by a good margin. On the other hand, these ODI games will be equally important for a spirited New Zealand side, as they aim to secure their qualification for the 2025 ODI World Cup. Hence, fine-tuning skills and gaining ample practice in Indian conditions will prove beneficial for both teams ahead.

Fascinatingly enough, both the men's and women's teams of the two nations will square off against each other as India's senior men will also be playing against New Zealand men's team, albeit, in red-ball cricket. They will play three Tests, which are scheduled to begin on October 16, in Bengaluru. As of now, apart from the hosts of the upcoming ODI World Cup, only Australia, England and South Africa have booked their berths for the marquee event. The Kiwi Women are still in their quest owing to their standings in the Women's Championship through which the qualifications are earned.
