India announce squad for T20I series against England
Mohammed Shami returns to the squad.
The Men’s Selection Committee has picked India’s 15-member squad for the upcoming five-match T20I series against England starting from 22nd January in Kolkata.
The return of bowler Mohammed Shami to international cricket after a 14-month hiatus is the team's high point for the five-match series. Harshit Rana and Nitish Kumar Reddy have rejoined the Indian Test team, while key players Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, and Rishabh Pant have been rested. The new addition to the team is Dhruv Jurel, who took Jitesh Sharma's place as Samson's backup.
The ODI squad for the three-match series in February will be announced at a later date. The squad will try to fill the void left by Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja when the next World Cup is held in 2026. In recent years, the squad has been able to score incredible goals by sticking to its aggressive strategy. The rival teams have been plagued by players like Sanju Samson and Tilak Varma, while Arshdeep Singh has been instrumental in generating early breakthroughs with the ball.
In addition to Shami, the team has added outstanding all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy, who won the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and left Riyan Parag out. Parag has been receiving rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.
Vidarbha wicketkeeper-batter Jitesh Sharma has been replaced by Dhruv Jurel, who only appeared in one game during the Australia series. But throughout the series, Sanju Samson is anticipated to be the primary choice to wear the wicketkeeper's gloves. While Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal have been left out of the Suryakumar Yadav-led team for the series, Samson who had an advantage over Rishabh Pant for selection, is also anticipated to start alongside Abhishek Sharma.
