India have played very well, will be tough to stop them in World Cup final: Sourav Ganguly

Sourav Ganguly, former India skipper and BCCI president, has firmly supported Rohit Sharma's squad to triumph over Australia in the final showdown. He emphasized the essence of maintaining their consistent style of play displayed throughout the World Cup 2023. Ganguly underscored the significance of India mirroring their cricketing approach for success in the title clash set to unfold in Ahmedabad on November 19.

India dominated the group phase, securing the top spot with an impressive 18 points from nine victories. Their exceptional net run rate of 2.570 stood out as the finest among all teams. Acknowledging India's formidable form, Ganguly highlighted the challenge of overcoming such a well-performing team in the finals. Despite wishing India luck, he acknowledged Australia's strength, acknowledging their competitive prowess.

"India is looking smashing at the moment. I wish them all the best for Ahmedabad. India have played very well in the tournament, and just one match and Australia stand between them and the World Cup trophy. If India continue to play like how they have performed in the tournament so far, then it will be tough to stop them. It will be a good match as Australia have a good team as well," Ganguly told reporters on  as Friday as quoted by India Today.

In the semi-final clash against New Zealand, Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill partnered effectively at the crease, setting the stage before Virat Kohli marked his 50th ODI century, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar's record. Despite Daryl Mitchell's century contributing to New Zealand's chase for 398 runs, they fell short by 70 runs. Australia, after initial losses to India and South Africa, made a resilient comeback in subsequent matches.

Initially struggling at the bottom, the Aussies rallied, clinching seven consecutive wins to secure 14 points and a spot in the playoffs. Pat Cummins' squad, seen as slight underdogs in their rematch against South Africa, made a blazing start, restricting South Africa to 24/4. Despite David Miller's resilient century for the Proteas, Cummins and Mitchell Starc's stellar performance sealed a gripping three-wicket victory, propelling Australia into the finals.
