Head coach of India's women's team, Amol Muzumdar, admitted that the players are still disappointed after they failed to progress beyond the group stage in the Women's T20 World Cup 2024 earlier this month. However, he wants to take the positives from the last 10 months as they prepare to face New Zealand in a three-match ODI series in Ahmedabad.
Harmanpreet Kaur and Co. lost to eventual champions New Zealand by 58 runs in their opening game in the World Cup. The Women in Blue turned things around with wins against Pakistan and Sri Lanka and kept themselves afloat in the tournament. However, they lost a must-win clash against defending champions Australia to crash out of the 10-team competition.
Ahead of the first ODI at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Thursday, October 24, Muzumdar hoped for a strong comeback from his players.
“It will be an understatement to say that we were disappointed from the World Cup, as the team and the players have been hurting. But we need to gather ourselves and look at the positives that we have done in the last 10 months as a group,” Muzumdar said in the pre-match press conference.
“We had won 3-0 against South Africa just a couple of months back in Bangalore. So, we are really looking forward to the series (against NZ). It is an important series,” Muzumdar added.

We are a formidable team: Amol Muzumdar
Muzumdar asserted that India is a formidable team and said that they will focus on their strengths and work on improving their weak points during the series against New Zealand.
“We are a formidable team and we want to focus on our strengths and work on the areas to improve. I am sure this is going to be a very well-fought series,” the former Mumbai cricketer stated.
This is going to be India's first ODI assignment since the comprehensive 3-0 win at home against South Africa in June.
