The Indian team scripted history, defeating South Africa in the final of the T20 World Cup 2024 and winning the title for the first time since 2007. Posting a total of 176 runs in the first innings, India defended the target after a sensational performance with the ball.

The side won the game by seven runs and clinched their second T20 World Cup title. After the win, Pakistan’s ace pacer Shaheen Afridi came forward to talk about how India deserved to lift the title. Afridi opined that it was clear from the way the Men in Blue were playing throughout the tournament that they were one of the biggest favourites for the title.

"I watched the match and enjoyed it, and both the teams played well. On the day whichever team handles the pressure wins, India played a good brand of cricket and deserved to win,” Shaheen was quoted as saying by GeoSuper.

I think we need to correct few things: Afridi

Furthermore, Shaheen Afridi talked about the performance of Pakistan in the 2024 T20 World Cup. The side exited the tournament from the group stages after a string of subpar performances. They also lost a game to the co-hosts, the USA. Besides, the fiery pacer also reflected on how top teams in the world come into the mega cricket carnival by carving out a process and setup which helps them to sharpen their skills.

As a result, these teams are able to play in World Cups with a process focused on winning at the biggest stage of all. Hence, similar to them, the Green Shirts also need to create a process by rectifying current issues plaguing the team and moving ahead towards the path of attaining World Cup glory.

"Strong teams compete in the World Cup and they come after going through a process. I think we need to correct few things and if we work hard, results will be with us," Afridi stated.

It is interesting to note that up to six Indian players were selected for the T20 World Cup team of the tournament. The side's captain is Rohit Sharma, while Player of the Tournament Jasprit Bumrah, all-rounder Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav, Arshdeep Singh, and Axar Patel are the other five Indian players on the team.
