Team India has won all five matches they have played so far in the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023. They will step onto the field once again on Sunday, October 29 to face a bruised England side in Lucknow.

World Cup winner Sunil Gavaskar urged the Indian team to focus only on the game against the defending champions and asked them to not look towards the future.

“You just want to win. India should just focus on the next match and that’s all. Don’t think too far ahead. If chasing is the way you want to win, then keep doing that. Don’t worry about the knockout stage as of yet. Just think about the England team. Don’t think about the future. The future will take care of itself,” the legendary batter said while speaking exclusively to India Today.

England's problem has been that they haven't got off to a good start with the bat or with the ball: Gavaskar

England have had a nightmarish campaign so far in the ODI World Cup 2023 as they have lost four and won just one match. They are left with only a mathematical possibility of reaching the semi-finals. Gavaskar stated that lack of good starts with bat and ball has been a major cause for England's dismal performances.

“The opening, England hasn’t got off to a start. If you look at all the teams that are struggling in this World Cup, none of them have got off to a good start. They've lost a couple of wickets in the first 10 overs. They haven't got a platform for their other batters to come in and blast away in the middle overs. England's problem has been that they haven't got off to a good start with the bat or with the ball,” Gavaskar added.

A win on Sunday for India will help them reclaim the top position on the points table and take them one step closer to cementing a semi-final berth.
