IND vs AFG: Gill, Kohli share a light moment as Dube drives India home

Shivam Dube's stocks have been at an all-time high after his recent T20I success. The Mumbai batter also credited his rise to his IPL franchise and skipper MS Dhoni. In his most recent outing for India, Dube scored an unbeaten 63. Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli and Arshdeep Singh shared a light moment when Dube drove India home trying to flick an inswinger which thudded onto his pad for a leg bye

Axar Patel adjudged POTM

"Feels good, I just realised that I have got 200 T20 wickets. But what is important to keep doing well for India, honestly a few years later I won't remember how many wickets I took. I have been trying to bowl a bit slower, vary my lengths and now I have been to gauge these things better. Now I have the confidence to bowl at all times, even in the powerplay. You need to be mentally prepared as a bowler in T20 cricket. Ready to concede a six because that same ball could get you a wicket on another day. Earlier, I used to vary my plans if a batter was hitting me, but now I stick to my plans and make the batters take the chance against me," Axar said.

Winning skipper Rohit Sharma said:

"It is a great feeling, it has been a long journey starting way back in 2007. I've cherished every moment I have spent here. We have been clear with what we wanted to do, very clear message to everyone and when you see a performance like that, you can be really proud. One thing is talking about it, but to actually go there and play that way is a proud feeling. The last two games, we've ticked a lot of boxes. They've had a great couple of years, Jaiswal has played Test cricket now and even T20I. He has shown what he is capable of. He has the talent and has a great range of shots. Dube is a big guy, very powerful and can take on the spinners. That is his role and he has come out and played two crucial innings for us," Rohit said.

Losing skipper Ibrahim Zadran said:

"We were quite short. We had a good start but not very good after that. Sometimes we play well in the powerplay, sometimes in the middle and sometimes at the death. We need to build the momentum throughout and not repeat mistakes to have a good T20 World Cup. (On Gulbadin Naib) He's the most senior guy, we trust him and when he played a few shots in the powerplay, we wanted him to take that momentum throughout the innings," Zadran said.

21 RUNS OFF THE OVER!

MASSIVE OVER FOR TEAM INDIA. 10 overs have been bowled as India are 116/2 after 10 overs. Time for drinks.

In a spectacular display of skill and determination, India clinched victory in the first T20I against Afghanistan in Mohali, taking a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. The Holkar Stadium in Indore is set to witness the clash of these cricketing titans once again on January 14.

Facing a target of 158, the Indian innings encountered early setbacks, stumbling to 28 for 2 in the initial four overs. However, Shivam Dube's stellar unbeaten 60 off 40 coupled with Jitesh Sharma's rapid 31 off 20 deliveries ensured a smooth sail for the hosts. This victory was particularly commendable as it came despite the dew factor in Mohali, making the target seem even more manageable. Eager to make a resounding statement after an unfortunate run-out in the first game, Rohit Sharma is expected to deliver an impactful inning at the top.

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli, absent in the first match due to personal reasons, will be back for the second game, aiming to re-establish his authority in the T20 format after a 14-month hiatus.

The first match highlighted the resilience of India's young talents, who stepped up admirably in the absence of stellar performances from Rohit and Shubman Gill. With the series advantage, India will be looking to seal the deal in Indore.

Afghanistan eager to stage a comeback

On the other side, Afghanistan face the challenge of bouncing back after a lacklustre performance. Mohammad Nabi's 42 off 27 was a notable contribution but it was insufficient on a favourable batting surface. Afghanistan will rely heavily on Rahmanullah Gurbaz, who has been in excellent form with 206 runs in his last seven matches, boasting an average of 29.43 and a strike rate of 149.27.

While Ibrahim Zadran's stroke range could prove vital on the flat track, Afghanistan's bowling, notably without Rashid appears to lack the necessary bite. The bowlers are likely to face another challenging day on the batting-friendly surface.
